Flash Flood Devastates Texas Camp, Claims Over 100 Lives

A sudden flash flood on July 4 swept through Camp Mystic in Texas Hill Country, leaving devastation and over 100 people dead across the state. Kerr County was hit the hardest, with at least 87 victims.

Rising Waters, Rapid Destruction

The Guadalupe River surged 26 feet in just 45 minutes, wiping out cabins and severing all communication. Many young campers, untrained and without supplies, were left stranded. Camp co-owner Richard Eastland, 70, died while trying to save the children.

Remembering Katherine Ferruzzo

Among the victims was 19-year-old counselor Katherine Ferruzzo. She was known for her dedication to helping children with special needs and had recently graduated, planning to attend the University of Texas. Her family described her as someone with “a passion for helping” and created a foundation in her memory.

As rescue and recovery efforts continue, the tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief and support across the state. The Ferruzzo Foundation aims to continue Katherine’s mission of compassion and service, even after her untimely death.
