Inside Ozzy Osbourne’s Funeral Plans After Death at 76

Ozzy Osbourne Wanted Laughter, Not Tears

Before his passing on July 21, 2025, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne made it clear: he wanted his funeral to be a celebration, not a sorrowful affair. Known for his dark humor, the Black Sabbath frontman approached death the same way he lived — with wit and irreverence.

A Funeral Full of Pranks and Beatles Songs

In a 2011 Times interview, Ozzy joked about his funeral playlist:
“I honestly don’t care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen… but I do want to make sure it’s a celebration, not a mope-fest.”
He also suggested coffin pranks, like a knock from inside or a video of him asking for a “second opinion” on his death.

In 2016, he told NME that The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” would be his funeral song:
“Probably something from The Beatles… I really need a few more years to think this over.”

His Humor Never Faded

On Good Morning Britain in 2020, when asked how he wanted to be remembered, Ozzy replied without missing a beat:
“Bats taste like s—,” referencing his most infamous onstage moment.

Family Remembers the Real “John”

His sisters Jean Powell and Gillian Hemming spoke of their heartbreak. Jean shared:
“He was frail… but it still came as a shock. He still had plans.”
Gillian added: “What the public saw of John was exactly what he was like in real life. It wasn’t an act.”

Even in death, Ozzy’s final wish was simple: keep laughing.
