A Musical Legacy That Shaped a Generation
Rick Davies, co-founder of the legendary rock band Supertramp, passed away on September 5 at age 81.
Known for his soulful voice, piano skills, and songwriting, Davies helped define a generation with hits like The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger, and Take the Long Way Home.
His impact on rock music remains timeless.
Davies had been battling multiple myeloma, a form of cancer, since 2015 but stayed closely connected to music throughout his illness.
He died peacefully at his home in Long Island.
From Humble Beginnings to Global Fame
Born in Swindon, England, Davies struggled in school, but his passion for music was clear early on.
As his mother once said, “Music was the only thing he was any good at at school.”
In 1969, he co-founded Supertramp with Roger Hodgson. Despite their different upbringings, the pair created unforgettable music together.
Supertramp’s 1979 album Breakfast in America became a global success, topping charts and earning Grammy nominations.
